A young nun has to start a new life in the secular world and faces the awakening woman in herself.
Inspired by István Örkény's cult novel, GLORIA is a six-part dramedy about finding faith in yourself. Having been a devout nun for 18 years, GLORIA, now 32, is thrust back into the secular world when all Catholic Orders are dissolved by the communist regime in 1951 Hungary. The ultimate fish out of water, Gloria must leave her comfortable sanctuary ruled by her divine mentor, the Reverend Mother, and be plunged back to her family home ruled by her real mother, a woman she has absolutely nothing in common with. Adrift in an alien world of sex and alcohol, the virginal Gloria clings to the lifeboat of her selfless and self-appointed mission to save a fellow nun from crippling domestic abuse, and together they escape to embark on adventures in a world of self-discovery. With a personality split down the middle, Gloria treads the constant tightrope between the two competing forces of her personality - Gloria, the pious and innocent nun who always puts God first and herself last, and ILONA, her former self, who seeks her pleasures in the earthly realm and experiences a sexual awakening. Ultimately, after years of being married to God, she will find a way to unify the warring aspects of her character: to both find peace by reaching a deeper level of spiritual faith and learn to be happy on Earth with a man.
