ADRIAN SITARU is an established Romanian director and writer renowned for his five successful feature films and several short films. His latest feature, THE FIXER (2016), was Romania’s proposal for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards. ILLEGITIMATE (2016) won the C.I.C.A.E Award at Berlinale Forum, DOMESTIC (2012) was selected in the Official Competition of Mar del Plata IFF, BEST INTENTIONS (2011) is the winner of two Silver Leopards in Locarno, while his first feature, HOOKED (2008), was selected for Venice Days, Toronto IFF, BFI London, amongst others, achieving ten awards and being sold in 12 territories. Amongst the shorts in his filmography, there are WAVES (2007), winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno, THE CAGE (2009), gathering 27 awards, among which DAAD grant in Berlinale Shorts and a certificate of excellence by BAFTA/LA), ART (2014), and COUNTERPART (2014). His experience includes directing part of the series IN TREATMENT (2010-2012) for season 1 and consulting on directing for season 2. He has also directed the pilot and several other episodes for the first Romanian drama series, IN THE FAMILY (2002-2003).
The film is related to two current topics: posthumanism, which no longer places humans above other beings, thus erasing any form of discrimination, and transhumanism, dealing with merging technology and the human body, thus transforming man into a cyborg which can no longer get sick or old and will eventually not die anymore. Everything that happens to LAURA is suggested to her brain through technology and AI. The mistakes of the past are eliminated in this new virtual life. This may sound like a utopia. But it is only a matter of years until medicine and science can offer this kind of solution to people with severe depression, terminal ill, incapacitated older people, etc. And, will it also be a matter of who can afford it? How ethical is it? The story invites reflection on the role that memory plays for each of us, how we can manipulate it for our benefit, and to what extent we can use this manipulation without crossing a moral line.

Anamaria Antoci
ANAMARIA ANTOCI is an accomplished active producer in the European market and a member of prominent industry networks such as EAVE, ACE Producers, and the European Producers Club. She founded in 2017 the Bucharest-based production company Tangaj Production. The company specialises in producing high-quality arthouse films, discovering new and emerging talent. Her achievements include producing the independent production ILLEGITIMATE (2016), directed by Adrian Sitaru, which won the C.I.C.A.E. Award at the Berlinale Forum and earned her the Romanian film industry GOPO Emerging Award. Recently, she produced multiple award-winning films, such as MEN OF DEEDS (2022) by Paul Negoescu and served as a delegate producer for Cristi Puiu’s MALMKROG (2020), which opened the first edition of Berlinale's Encounters section.
