Truth or post-truth? Emotions, propaganda, and conspiracy theories show no signs of going away soon. For most people, this issue raises concerns about the current state of affairs - political, social, and cultural - but do we have the choice to distinguish between the world of truth and post-truth? Whether we are concerned with diluting the concept of truth or accepting post-truth as our new reality, we must be wary of mixing abstract philosophical ideas with issues of politics and cultural change. The current debate often misses an effort to rethink the social agreement that underlies modern democratic institutions. Any successful participation in political action requires not only fundamental democratic rights such as freedom of speech but also a shared understanding of the ultimate goals of politics and, equally important, a meaningful public conversation about how to achieve them.
