SYNOPSIS
In April 2009, Václav Havel suggested director Petr Jančárek to film the rest of his life. Their almost three-year-long collaboration, which ended with Havel's death, was characterised by complete openness, the ex-president's trust in the director and the creator's responsibility towards his protagonist. Feature documentary HAVEL SPEAKING, CAN YOU HEAR ME? is crafted from unique footage, treading the non-existent line between this global figure's private and public personas.

PETR JANČÁREK, is a Czech documentary filmmaker who has shot numerous documentaries in troubled areas worldwide and focuses on important moments in our history. He is a co-founder of People in Need and a member of its board of directors. He works as a teacher at the Silesian University in Opava. He is the recipient of the Ferdinand Peroutka Journalism Award, the Grand Prize of the Politics on Film Festival in Washington, the Award for Best Czech Science Documentary Film, and the Audience Award at the AFO Festival, among numerous other accolades.
Our film is mainly about President's message and legacy. We want to show Václav Havel in his style, as a dramatic figure with history and development, with many doubts, as a timid but consistent director of his destiny, as a man with a life full of paradoxes, absurdities and unexpected twists. And also as a man whose credo was that actions must be in accordance with conscience.

Jirí Konecný
JIŘÍ KONEČNÝ is a Czech film producer, the founder and owner of Endorfilm. He graduated from the University of Economics in Prague and FAMU in Prague. He graduated from EAVE and was a Producer on the Move at Cannes. He is a member of the European Film Academy (EFA), Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) and Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA). He serves on the Managing Board of the Czech Audiovisual Producers’ Association (APA) and is a member of the Presidium of the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA). He is a lecturer at FAMU in Prague.
