BLUE BIRD
In 1950s Türkiye, a crumbling blue bus (Blue Bird) carries strangers from a forgotten town to the train station, unveiling quiet sorrows, hidden pasts and difference between reality and truth.
SYNOPSIS
1950s Türkiye, two horsemen gallop through snowy hills toward a town where a group of strangers—Americans, a student, a perfumer, a jeweler, and more—await an old blue bus named Blue Bird. Each traveler hides a past: smuggling, heartbreak, dreams of escape. A commissioner, posing as an engineer, joins the ride to expose the Americans’ artifact trafficking. The journey unfolds through a web of human stories: a sick woman dies, a boy stows away, a jeweler confesses murder. As the bus reaches its destination, the scene fractures—someone shouts "Cut." The cast breaks character. A real gunshot kills the actor playing the prisoner. Panic follows. The line between cinema and reality dissolves. What began as a quiet ensemble drama transforms into a manifesto: the visible is not the truth. Blue Bird questions what artists show, hide, and believe, revealing the inner journeys beneath the surface of every story.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Blue Bird is a film about journeys—physical and spiritual, visible and invisible. As in all my work, I explore the human being’s inner path, and here, that journey unfolds aboard a weary, unreliable bus taking townspeople from a forgotten Turkish town to the train station. Though their lives and worldviews diverge, they share a confined space and an uncertain destination. At first glance, Blue Bird seems like a collage of individual stories from the past, but it gradually reveals itself as a reflection of our collective inner journey—as a society in search of itself. The ending serves as a manifesto: cinema can show what is visible, but truth lies elsewhere. The final scene—revealing a young man’s murder on a film set—challenges what we see and believe. Inspired by the literary depth of Mustafa Kutlu, the renowed Turkish story writer, I seek to uncover the gap between appearance and essence. I hope Blue Bird resonates not just with the eyes, but with the hearts of those who watch it.
