Collaborating with Vlad Buzăianu is a natural extension of our ongoing commitment to supporting emerging filmmakers and exploring underrepresented genres in Romanian cinema. With Vagabonds, our main motivation is to strengthen the professional relationship built with Buzăianu during the making of his previous short film, Where No Ships Go. This new project represents not only a creative evolution but also a thematic continuation: while the short film focused on childhood, sibling bonds, and the loss of innocence, Vagabonds approaches similar themes from a different, more mature perspective. We see this film as a powerful coming-of-age drama wrapped in the visceral and emotionally resonant structure of a road movie. It tells the story of Toma, a teenager forced into a journey that’s as much internal as it is external. In a quest to save his younger brother, he must confront the violent legacy of their father. Buzăianu approaches this genre with fresh vision, anchoring the narrative in both visual storytelling and philosophical depth. His personal connection to the theme, grappling with questions of fatherhood, generational legacy, and the boundaries of free will, makes Vagabonds a deeply human film. We believe the impact of this project is twofold: to deliver a high-quality, emotionally engaging film that resonates with a young and diverse audience, and to contribute meaningfully to the thematic diversification of the Romanian cinematic landscape.
