A film about people choosing to become either culprits or victims. And ending up being both.

NADJA and BORIS, former activist couple, changed their lives completely. She is working as an assistant in big corporation that's planning to buy a weapons factory and turn it into agricultural land. He is striving to lead the presidential campaign for a big tycoon. After Nadja is raped by a colleague, her and Boris's world start to merge. They try to regain their love, balancing between what they are afraid of and what they want. After finding documents that can overturn the course of the presidential campaign and the future of the old weapons factory, Nadja tries to save Boris from falling into a trap. Aware of all the lies she is ready to bring the truth to light. But he isn't. Personal, corporate and state interests are confronted with love and moral values. The future of the whole society depends on their individual decisions. Things start to spiral out of control.

Director’s statement

How do you react when freedom like everything else becomes relative? Insecurity and fear are omnipresent and the suspense never stops. The story unfolds from the two perspectives of my main characters - NADJA and BORIS. We observe meticulously and carefully, always from a new angle as we follow them and their lives. Though the film itself is not a thriller, tension will be constant. Camera will be motivated by character movements and framing will be tight. Mise en scene will never seem overstuffed and lighting will be naturalistically dim. The sound in the film will be treated like a supporting character, multilayered and always present, functioning almost like a musical score. A new age demands a new body. The question is who can survive that. A rat in a maze is free to go anywhere, as long as it stays inside the maze.

Producer's statement

RATTLESNAKES is a fiction feature film. It is a story about Nadja and Boris, former activist couple who are confronting their love and moral values with personal, corporate and state interests. The film is a political thriller with a strong social commentary and contemporary zeitgeist, inspired by current European political shaking's and Balkan war past traumas and it presents an even sharper portrait of a neo-capitalist society in the filth of corruption, and it is a logical continuation of the director’s way which he began with the first film HUMIDITY.
Up to know: The project was developed through MIDPOINT program and won the CoCo award for best script, we applied for Media, and get support from Film Centre Serbia. 50% of budget is secured. In the next two years we have a plan to apply at the minority co-producers funds (Croatian, France co-producers are already attached, and we are looking for three more) and at the end on the Eurimages – all with the plan to start shooting at the 2023
