Over a 3 year period, film follows the conditions and experiences of 4 women, out of thousands raped during the war, as they share their life stories on a journey to recovery and healing.

Our protagonists are women whose families were killed in one of the last European wars. They were tortured and rape, but survived,  guilt and shame kept quiet for 25 years. Their names are KATICA, ANA, MARIJA and ĐURĐICA. Today they are getting their power back, changing their lives to better. We follow them every month, for 3 days during intensive 2 year specially designed strengthening program: “I am much more than my trauma”, but also in their homes, villages and cities where they live, often in the vicinity to their abusers, former friends and schoolmates who less than 3 decades ago committed these atrocities. Determined to change their lives and the lives of their children to better, they have turned to new approaches of therapeutic methods, all focused on the solution, not the cause.

Director’s statement

How does personal change come about? In this project we meet 4 women that were raped and have severe PTSD and trauma from the war. They are in every sense collateral damage–bystanders exposed to extreme terror and a type a war casualty very seldom spoken about. As hard the subject of the past is for these women and also the viewers–their present is bright and dignified. By the end of the film, they start to enjoy life again–this is visible not only through the therapy sessions, but also in their private life and relations.
Sessions are edited raw and private life is more slower and poetic.
This is the film about who this women can be without the story they're identified with. Besides the strong protagonists there's also one important element-a group. This group is growing with them, and when they start to be more connected to themselves, they become more connected to each other, stronger together. So its a resource and this group energy is reflecting the change they made in their life.
