Too Close

A woman's life turns into every mother’s worst nightmare when her 9-year-old daughter finds the courage to share her darkest secret with her. She has to fight to build a safe new life for her children.

TOO CLOSE is the touching story of ANDREA, a single mother in her forties, who faced every woman’s worst nightmare and is now fighting to create a new life for herself and her children. It all began as a fairy tale romance when she met a charming man from a well-respected pastor family. She was divorced and raising her 9-year-old daughter alone when he entered their lives. What seemed to be a hopeful shift, turned out to be an ordeal: the man was abusing Andrea’s daughter during their seemingly perfect relationship. Moreover, when the abuse was happening, Andrea was pregnant with the perpetrator’s son.

Director’s statement:

I grew up in a similar community like ANDREA’s, where everything different from the usual is almost deemed as a blasphemy, so I know the effects it can have on the individual. But the bonding between me and Andrea lies much deeper, since we knew each other before the abuse happened. The shock was that much heavier to take when she decided to share her family’s dark secrets with me. This is how the project was born, from our trust-based relationship, our willingness to make a film which inspires others to look at this subject in a new light. The camera became part of the healing process. Her shockingly personal tonality allows me to assume that this movie would resonate intensely with an audience, especially because my characters do not consider themselves victims, but fighters. It is about parenthood, about questioning the correctitude of our own decisions, universal themes we all experience. Andrea’s story – beyond the traumas – inspires us to overpass the deepest ditches of our life.
